Own Your Map - Week 2 Lab

This weeks lab was a good way to build on what I learned last week. I was able to learn new ways to create a professional looking map. Week 2 has taught me me many skills such as to add inset maps, import cartographer details, and creating layers just to name a few.

I felt that this lab was a great way to improve my GIS skills. In this weeks lab, I was displaying where the UWF campus was located within Escambia County. Local highways and interstates are listed next to UWF.  I was able to add an inset map to show where Escambia County was located within Florda. I also added cartographer details, UWF logo, legend, north arrow, and a scale.

Hello and welcome to my first ever blog post!

In my first lab for GIS 4043/L, I was introduced to ArcGIS/ArcMap and created the country population map that is listed above. Following the instructions, I was able to familiarize myself with all of the features and tool bars that the software has to offer. This lab taught me how to add data, explore and sort through data, how to create a map, and how to add important items such as a legend, scale, north arrow, and text.

This was a perfect lab to learn all of the basics of the software. I am looking forward to building on what I learned this week.
