Week 12 - Geocoding and Network Analysis

This week we went over Geocoding and Network Analysis. This weeks objective was to create a map listing all of the EMS locations in Lake County, Florida. We had to create an address locator followed by the matching and re-matching of address for all of the EMS locations. We also had to choose an optimal route between three EMS locations. I felt that this was a very interesting lab and was cool to continue to learn what GIS skills can allow us to do. We also made a model builder for section 3 of the lab that showed where gas leaks were near public schools.

Week 10 - Vector Analysis 2

This week brought us two new tools to add to our skill set. Those two tools were buffer and overlay. We also got to try out ArcPy and write out scripts. We analyzed vector data using spatial queries to determine potential campground sites for a specified area. Between overlay options, erase tools, and other techniques we picked up, we were able to narrow down potential campground sites within certain parameters.

Week 7-8 - Data Search

For this weeks lab, we were assigned a county to showcase. I was given assigned Monroe County. I felt that Monroe county was a little more difficult to display due to the fact that Key West and the other islands make it a large piece of land to display.

After learning how to import data, I was able to use the FGDL,Labins, and National maps websites to find more data for this lab. I chose to display the elevation, surface water, and land cover on the map in the top left. In the bottom right I have Monroe cities, invasive plants, Monroe major roads, and state parks, I felt that this was more difficult to display due the the small area for the islands in the south part of the map.
